Special Processes                                 Back to Process Capabilities

1. Brush Plating – a selective electroplating process used with portable equipment. Typical reasons for brush plating are:
  • The part is assembled with multiple metals.
  • More economical to brush plate than to mask and plate.
  • Selectively repair an area on the part.
  • It is easier and less expensive to bring the process to the part.

Types of brush plating:

  • Nickel
  • Cad
  • Zinc
  • Copper
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Tin

2. Electroforming – the process of electrodepositing a metal on a mandrel. Later the metal is separated from the mandrel and used as a mold.

3. Masking for Carbuerizing – by plating the parts with acid copper or cyanide copper this works as a carbon diffusion barrier to prevent the parts from getting hard. Parts can be masked prior to copper plating to leave selective areas bare for hardening, or the copper plating can be machined off after plating and before heat-treating.

4. Nickel/Cad Diffuse Plating – cad is plated over nickel and then diffused together.
