Copper

Hohman Plating provides both Acid copper and Cyanide copper coatings. They can be applied using Rack or Barrel methods. Acid copper is used for heavier coatings where a level deposit is desired. It cannot be applied directly over steel or zinc (due to the high sulfuric acid content), unless alkaline based copper is used as an initial layer to provide a barrier from the acid. Acid copper is softer, and brighter than cyanide copper. This makes it a better choice for machining or polishing after plating. Thickness of deposits can range from coverage to .030 inch.  Immersion Copper finish is also available.

Applications for copper are:

  • Heat Treat stop-off (mask from heat-treat).
  • As a base coating prior to nickel-chrome.
  • To eliminate deep scratches in base metal. (Use heavy plating followed by polishing.)
  • Brazing
  • Repair
  • Electroforming
  • Drawing lubricant

Properties:

  • Bright (acid copper)
  • Ductile
  • Easily buffed
  • Conductivity (only exceeded by silver)
  • Easily machined

Specifications:

  • AMS 2418 TI & II
